In "Visualising Emptiness", the change in consciousness during meditative practice is visually depicted. For this purpose an EEG is recorded and the brain waves of the meditating person are measured. Depending on the characteristics of the brain waves, certain parameters are addressed in a programming interface, which change the visualisation accordingly.
For the technical implementation, the Game Engine Unity is used, especially the option of the VFX Graph, which allows the creation of a particle system in real time by means of GPU rendering. The particles are addressed via an interface created using the Bolt visual programming environment.
With regard to the conceptual background and aesthetics, reference is made to systems theory and the findings from the reflexive journal, which was written within the framework of Art-based Research. Concepts and descriptions of meditative practice will be explored, underpinned with theory, connections made and summarised through a final analysis. The findings from the Art-based Research are used to make aesthetic decisions regarding visualisation.
All work steps are recorded in a protocol regarding the creation of the prototype as well as in a reflexive journal within the framework of the Art-based Research and subsequently commented on.
